February 20 - February 22

Reading: This week in reading, students have continued their practice of comprehension by reading chapter books in book clubs. 3 of the 5 groups finished their first chapter books together. Next week, we will begin new books at a more advanced level. Great job groups! In addition, students were practicing author’s purpose as to why authors write. Students had to decide if the author wanted you to learn from their writing, be persuaded by writing or simply entertained. Next week, students are going to be practicing main idea and supporting details.

Writing: Students are wrapping up their final opinion piece. This opinion writing piece is about the student’s favorite food or restaurant. These writing samples will be displayed at conferences for you to see. Next week, students will start writing more book reviews in detail to persuade others to read their favorite books.

Math: Students have been practicing area found within different shapes. Students have been using geoboards to help them create shapes with rubber bands. From there, students can analyze how many units can be found within the shape. Next week, students will be continuing this practice where we will create a paper quilt made of many different shapes. Students will have to find patterns and areas of different sections of the quilt.
