Parents,

We had a wonderful first week back since Fall Break. I hope you all had a wonderful, relaxing vacation from school. Let’s discuss our week!

Reading & Writing: In reading and writing this week, students started to research non-fiction text features. Every day this week, students read a different non-fiction text. From there, they had to find 4 text features to help them better understand the concept. Bolded words, visuals, facts, and questions they had after reading. After doing this, students discovered that authors use these features to help us better understand difficult non-fiction concepts. Next week, students will be diving into their animals of choice for our big research project.

Math: Students this week practiced adding on an open number line. This practice is so important for students to practice their number sense and place value. Students learned this specific strategy all week, in addition to our shape math practice earlier this month, and were assessed on it this Friday with our Unit 2 post-test.

Phonics/Grammar: This week in Phonics/Grammar, we studied the wonderful silent magnetic E. This concept is so fun to teach to students because they can hear long and short vowel sounds as they follow it up with a consonant. Students can sound out a word and decide if it should be said in its short or long vowel sound. Next week, we will be continuing this practice.
