March 16, 2018 Newsletter & Gala Info

Hello Parents,

Let’s talk about our great week!

Reading: This week, students have been practicing buddy reading. With this practice, students are developing skills related to fluency and comprehension. Students are reading elbow to elbow, knee to knee. As they read, they are asking each other questions and expressing elements that they find interesting. Every day, we have had a guiding question that students have been focused on. They have been journaling their responses and are practicing this so they can become experts at retelling stories and showing their understanding!

Writing: This week, students continued their opinion writing relating to animal body parts. We were thinking about if we had animal eyes, which would we want to have and why. Students create a circle map about their ideas and facts. After this, we are practicing our online skills by typing our findings into multiple paragraphs. By the end of this project, students will have a total of five paragraphs.

Math: Geometry is in full swing right now. Students have been identifying different shapes with angles and sides from 3 – 10. In addition to this, students are becoming pros at finding area within a shape.

Science: This week, the class studied tornadoes! The students were so excited to learn about this fascinating weather pattern. Students read articles, researched online and watched quick videos about this weather pattern. Next week, hurricanes will be researched.
