Non-Fiction Animal Research Project

Welcome back my wonderful 2nd Grade C-Track Students and Families! I hope you all had a wonderful break. Over break, I rested up and got prepared for our exciting new activities that are waiting for the students.

The biggest project that is going to be given is our Animal Research Project. This will start on Wednesday and go until the 22nd of December. WOW! This project is going to mix our writing and reading standards of non-fiction text features and writing elements. Students are going to explore internet sources and library books to find an animal that they wish to research. Students are going to create a tell all book that encompasses all non-fiction text features such as table of contents, bolded words, chapters, visuals, and of course lots of content about their animal!

In addition to our big writing project, we are going to be hitting grammar hard. Our areas of focus will be vowel teams and the important R-Controlled family. These sounds include ir, ur, or, ar, er. Furthermore, Power Writing will be coming back for students. This is a great time of the day where students will be discovering how much they can writing within a 1 minute period to grow their writing fluency skills.

iReady will still be every Thursday for homework and if you wish to use iReady as your “Read for 20 minutes” homework, you can definitely do that! MyOn can be utilized, too.

I enjoyed seeing everyone at conferences. If I have you scheduled this Thursday, I am looking forward to going over your child’s progress with you! Together we are learning!
